Hike to Alftavatn; camp (Approx. 8.7 miles, 1600ft elevation descent)

We’ll be hiking 8.7 miles and losing about 1700 ft of elevation, so it’s back down the hill today, including one of the most spectacular views of the whole trip! We’ll also see plenty of thermal activity, so careful of those steam vents! At 7.5 miles we’ll reach the first campsite, a lakeside popular one. However we will continue our hike another couple miles, and tonight will spend the night in the Hvanngil hut, a beautiful and less crowded campsite. This will also shorten day 3, our longest day.
